The Bible makes me squirm sometimes. It provokes this reaction because often I find myself corrected and even rebuked instead of happily inspired. At times, the purpose of scripture is to get us moving through the day, and other times it stops us in our tracks. Whatever the case, a careful evaluation of God's word reveals power and guidance. It is not simply a storybook, but there is life in every page.
When scripture does not fit in the context of our desires, it is tempting to assume it is not relevant to our situation. Scripture calls us to conform; not the other way around.
In this passage, Satan, through the medium of the serpent, uses the oldest human temptation as a weapon for his dark kingdom. He leads Eve to question the validity of the word of God. Eve succumbs to this temptation and that led to a spiritual domino affect that broke our close relationship with Our Creator.
In this story, the word was the subject. God knew that the fix for this was also word-oriented. The book of John tells us that the "word became flesh and made His dwelling among us". He became that which was offended at the beginning of time.
Today, seek to know and obey God's word. It is life and power.
Prayer for today: Father, help me to get to know you through your word today. Help me to see your power in the pages.
