One thinks that his mother's prayers will save him. Another, that his church-membership is a fair ground of confidence. Another that his being included in a good congregation will sweep him over danger. Every expectation of this sort is even more foolish than the confidence fo the Jews in their earthly parentage.
Begin not to say anything of the kind in your heart as a source of hope; and if you have begun to say it, quit it forthwith, and find something to rest in that will stand the test to which your faith must finally be subjected.
